Canada's Brent Cooke Appointed 2015 Festival Patron

Vancouver, B.C. CANADA - July 6, 2015 - Brent Cooke, international award-winning bronze sculptor is supporting the 2015 AFC Festival as the official Festival Artist Patron. The 3-week event will bring out leading nature and wildlife artists from around the world, immersing visitors in art and nature through workshops, film, and a world's top conservation-themed art exhibit of 80 original paintings and sculptures. All artwork sales benefit conservation. Brent follows Pollyanna Pickering and Robert Bateman, who assumed the role for the first three years of the Festival.

"Brent is both a delightful and powerful ambassador for AFC. We're thrilled to have one of his magnificent bronze works represent the cause this year." explains Jeff Whiting, President and founder of Artists for Conservation. "His generous contribution of a lifesized bronze sculpture of a Great Blue Heron, will go a long way to supporting AFC's wide range of art and environmental education programming."

Brent has been a long-time and active supporter of AFC, both as an artist, speaker, promoter and board member. In 2013, Brent won Best in Show in the AFC annual exhibit and most recently was awarded the Canadian Wildlife Federation's Robert Bateman Award for Conservation through Art.

The artist explains "As an artist specializing in wildlife, I am constantly approached by a wide range of organizations seeking support for their own various causes. When I became a member of AFC however, I realized this organization was of a quite different nature.  Yes, it raised money to support the organization itself, but it went that one step further… encouraging member artists to donate a portion of their sales for conservation-centered charitable groups of their own choosing.  The money donated goes directly to that charity with no associated fees being deducted by the AFC. Artists now support more than 200 other smaller wildlife-focused groups through these artist-directed donations. AFC’s philosophy and unique approach to cross-organizational support is the major factor behind my desire to be this year’s AFC Festival Patron."

Brent's bronze sculpture "Silent & Serene" depicting a life-sized Great Blue Heron will be available for sale ($20,000 CAD) and on display in the exhibit during the festival. Proceeds from the sales of the artwork will directly support Artists for Conservation art and environmental education programming, including the AFC Flag expeditions and education programs.

The Artists for Conservation Festival opening weekend is free to the public starting at 11 a.m. September 10, 2015 through September 12, at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in downtown Vancouver, BC. Following the opening weekend, the exhibit will move to Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver - providing a unique venue overlooking the pacific ocean to celebrate artists and nature.
