AFC's Gregory Wellman to lead Art Safaris in Tanzania

AFC member Gregory Wellman from the UK is running art safaris to Northern Tanzania for wildlife artists. Following years of involvement with his partner’s charity organization in the Kilimanjaro & Ngorongoro Crater area, Gregory has partnered with a successful and long established tour operator there, Nordic Travel, to help artists take their wildlife art to a new level.

Gregory has painted wildlife for many years and has been able to arrange these Art Safaris around an artist’s priorities. Gregory has been an inspirational instructor for art societies, groups and art students at home and abroad. He will run workshops at camp to share his knowledge and to deal with individual challenges that clients may have in their depiction of wildlife and natural habitat.

The trip will include locations like The Crater, Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Park, high quality accommodation and comfortable vehicles to maximize our ability to get close to the wildlife for detailed sketching and photography.

Artists will spend a lot of time sketching and photographing wildlife from the 4 x 4 vehicles, enabling them to get extremely close to the animals and birds. Also planned for these safaris is the opportunity to meet and paint the local people. Gregory is becoming known for his Maasai portrait work, which till now has been based on photographs from his many trips there. The camps and lodges used support or run their own foundations, initiatives or projects to support the local people, wildlife and environment. The first of these art safaris is running October 5-14, 2012, followed by another in February 2013, which will include the Serengeti.
