AFC is very excited to announce that this fall we are expanding our annual exhibit with the first annual Artists for Conservation Festival - a 10-day international art and environmental education event in beautiful Vancouver, Canada (November 4-13, 2011) at Grouse Mountain Resort. The event will include AFC's fourth annual art exhibit, gala, film premiere, and demos and workshops by master artists.
Grouse Mountain is one of Vancouver's premier attractions, set on mountain-top, accessible by gondola and overlooking Vancouver and the ocean, and was highlighted during the 2010 Winter Olympics. With wonderful facilities for art display, seminars, social events, a theatre, fine dining, nature trails and a wildlife refuge with Timber Wolves and Grizzly Bears - all just a few minutes from downtown Vancouver and 45 minutes from one of the world's top outdoor/alpine resort towns - Whistler, BC.
Some highlights of this year's event include:
- AFC's 2011 juried exhibit of approximately 75 artworks plus a virtual exhibit of all 150 juried works;
- World premiere and daily screenings of AFC's first documentary film, produced in association with the American Museum of Natural History;
- Art workshops, lectures and demonstrations with AFC members, that showcase nature art and raise environmental awareness and appreciation for nature;
- A VIP Gala Fundraising and awards dinner with awards presentations, auction, and a keynote presentation by AFC Member Robert Bateman;
- An expected 25,000 visitors during the event, significant media attention and media sponsors (TV, newspaper, radio and magazines);
- Involvement from First Nations (including dance performances);
- Release of AFC's 4th annual hardcover book and 2nd annual "Environmental Calendar"
In January, 2012, a selection of works from the Vancouver exhibit will tour to Arizona-Sonora Desert Art Museum near Tucson, Arizona. For more information about Grouse Mountain or Arizona Sonora Desert Art Museum, please visit their websites: www.grousemountain.com and www.desertmuseum.org.
