Bissell receives Art Award

The Mary Scott-Kestin Cup awarded for a wildlife subject in the Annual Hilliard Society Exhibition has been won by Lauren Hayes Bissell H.S. for her miniature version of "Barbary Babe", a portrait of a particularly expressive female Barbary Lion cub bred by the Aspinall Animal Foundation Animal Park, Port Lympne, Kent, England.

Solo painting expedition in Antarctica

Deception Island is the only active volcano in Antarctica and is found just off the peninsula near the South Shetland Islands. The volcanic action over many years has left layers off ash and volcanic debris layered into the ice that give the glaciers a very graphic look with beautiful lines and textures all in various greys and browns, black and white.

The Society of Animal Artists announced that Beatrice Bork was this year

Kitler Artist of Year for Ducks Unlimited Alberta 2005

David has been selected as the Ducks Unlimited Alberta 2005 Artist of the Year, with his "Rocky Mountain Eye II" piece.

Established in 1999, this program is one of Ducks Unlimited Alberta's most important fundraisers. The image will be reproduced, featured, and auctioned at over 150 Ducks Unlimited events across Alberta, helping generate the funds needed for their conservation efforts.

Ron Orlando Grand Prize Winner at Arts for the Parks

"Olympic Twins", an acrylic by Ron Orlando, is the Grand Prize winner at the 2004 Arts for the Parks competition. Ron was awarded a check for $25,000 at the 18th Annual Arts for the Parks banquet at Jackson Lake Lodge on September 18, 2004.

The ARTS FOR THE PARKS competition was created in 1986 by the National Park Academy of the Arts. Their program is designed to celebrate representational artists, to enhance public awareness of the National Parks and to contribute to programs benefiting the National Park System.

Eva Van Rijn and daughter cap two year canyon painting project with art show.

Eva Van Rijn is celebrating with her daughter, the completion of a two year project of painting and drawing their favorite canyons - the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and the Grand Canyon with an exhibition in Woodstock, NY.
Eva and her daughter Maia have been camping together and seperately, sketching and photographing. Now the show is almost upon them. "RED CANYONS/BLUE SPACE" opens October 9th and runs through October 28th. A catalog is available on request from info@fletchergallery,com.

Copyright Bandits

Although copyright laws prohibit the copying of an artists work without that artists permission there are always individuals who seek to gain economic benefit by stealing other's copyrighted material. With technological advances in copying technology and with extremely low labor costs in some less developed parts of the world artists and buyers of art must be particularily vigilant to ensure they are not taken advantage of.

Jason Tako's Painting a Week

American Artist magazine featured Jason Tako's "Painting a Week" webpage in their September, 2004 edition. Three of Jason's plein air watercolors were shown along with the article. Jason is showing a new plein air watercolor every week on his website and allowing people to post their comments (see previous news story.) A "Painting a Week" can be seen at
