AFC sculptor Leo Osborne was recently honored with the acceptance of his life-sized Whistling Saint Francis into Brookgreen Gardens famed outdoor sculpture garden in Pawley, South Carolina . A major acquisition fundraising campaign is underway to see the honor to fruition.

Leo also recently won the Environmental Statement Award at AFC's 2015 Art Exhibit for his wood burl sculpture of a sea turtle titled "The Great Escape". View it here at the Virtual Exhibit.

Leo explains: "This is such a wonderful honor to me for I have loved Brookgreen Gardens for many years and have visited them often for art openings and also to give lectures. The work of International Artists has adorned those premises for generations and I am awed to think that my work will be cherished there forever."

At 66" tall, the sculpture pays homage to the St. Francis with a wren on the shouldert. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226) was an Italian Roman Catholic friar and preacher could communicate with animals and felt at one with with them. He was canonised in 1228 and  became associated with patronage of animals and natural environment.

To assist with the acquisition, Brookgreen Gardens is requesting donations. Brookgreen Gardens is offering patrons a certificate of donation for a full tax deductible contribution. Leo is offering a special thank you gift as well to patrons who contribute $1000 or more, with a selection of one of his bronze sculptures.
